In 1975 with a production capacity of 1500 pairs a day, Paragon made a humble entry into the Indian consumer market. The primary brief of the client was straightforward- to establish exclusive brand outlets across the country to showcase the brand’s reach with over 500 products to display. The established budget was extremely efficient in order to achieve a wide number of outlets.

The process of design began with understanding the existing market of the brand. The new stores were about to change that for them by targeting the higher income groups as well- reaching out to a much wider audience. The second challenge was the size of the store. The requirement was for 500 brands on display with availability for over 4000 pairs in the stock room.

Paragon is identified by a set red colour as a brand identity. We decided to incorporate this into the store design visibly but still restrained. The flexibility of furniture modules is a key feature of the store - the distance between racks was fixed at 4 feet as the plywood used was in the same module. This helped to cut costs considerably. Rods were used as joining members in the racks, which could be easily screwed and unscrewed as required. With this arrangement, it was possible to assemble and dismember the entire store with minimal expense and effort. We were aware of the importance of a location to the business and hence we felt the flexibility would be an asset for the brand in the long run.
